Depression affects how you think, feel and behave such as feeling sad, lethargic, weighed-down, irritable, losing interest in and withdrawing from social activities, a slowed concentration and memory, physical sensations like pain and headaches, a reduced appetite, trouble sleeping, a lack of energy, struggling with day-to-day activities and feeling empty, hopeless or like life isn’t worth living.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
— CARL ROGERS

Psychotherapy can alleviate physical symptoms of depression, as well as explore the underlying cause, define values and goals, lift the heaviness of thought, develop structure and behavioural activation to lead a healthy lifestyle and improve overall life satisfaction and direction. A negative inner dialogue can be overcome by learning to better manage depression.
